Monthly Musings: Warm Weather Destinations/Winter Travel Tips

It’s time for another Monthly Musing. This time we’re talking about warm weather destinations and winter travel tips. Traveling…my favorite! To be honest, I like snow, and I don’t look for warm weather in winter, so some of these will be answered with trips that are warm, but were taken during the summer.

1. Favorite Warm Weather Destinations?

I don’t really have any favorite warm weather destinations. When it is winter time, and I’m travelling, I’m usually looking for snow. I live in the South and snow is rare for us, and I actually like the snow, so if there’s winter travelling, I go looking for it. (…except for Disney. That’s just for fun, not snow). But, for trips I’ve taken during the summer or fall, that were warm destinations, my favorite is Bar Harbor, ME (but it was still cooler in July than where I live).

2. Packing Cubes: Yes or No?

oh my goodness, YES! They are a game changer! They are great for organizing. I have used them to organize complete outfits and I’ve used them to organize by the type of clothing (tops, bottoms, undergarments, etc.). It keeps clothes neatly organized, and if you are flying, you don’t have tow orry about your clothes being all jumbled up when you open your suitcase.

These are the ones I have but it looks like they are unavailable right now.

3. Favorite Carry on?

If I don’t have to carry a laptop, I will use my Osprey daypack as a carry-on. It looks small in the picture but it hold so much! I use it for hiking so if I know I will be using it on my trip, I will definitely make sure I have it. If I have to take a laptop (like I did on my most recent trip), I will take the black laptop bag. It also holds so much, and also has a built-in charging port (all you need is to connect a charger to the inside) for charging on the go.

4. Essential Items in Your Suitcase?

see #2…packing cubes. Also, toiletry bag. …and 9 times out of 10, my pillow. I guess clothes are important too HA!

5. Excursions? Yes or No?

Definitely yes. If you have the time and the financial means, and it is something you want to do, go for it! Those are some of the memories I remember most from different vacations. Some of my favorites are: snowmobiling & snowshoeing in Alaska (not warm destination excursions but still favorites); climbing & descending Cadillac Mountain (except for the almost dying part) in Maine; and, all of Iceland (I feel like everything we did in Iceland was an excursion).

6. Most Random Item Always Packed?

I don’t know that I’ve ever packed anything that I would consider random, unless maybe it’s my pillow. (I don’t know. Maybe more people than I realize take their own pillow.) I just know that I have yet to find hotel pillows that are comfortable for me, so I take my own to try and prevent a headache every single morning. Since I pack my pillow now, I can’t remember the last time I’ve had that kind of headache.

7. Do You Use a Travel Agent?

No. We plan our vacations ourselves. My mom and I are both good at researching (especially with places like Bar Harbor, ME & Iceland) so we know going into it what to expect, what we want to do, and then we plan, reserve, etc.

8. Favorite Sunscreen?

I don’t really have a favorite sunscreen. I have been using Banana Boat Ultra Sport for a while though, and I like it. I use Rodan & Fields sunscreen on my face. It seems to be “gentler” on my face.

9. Favorite flip flops or sandals?

I have these Skechers sandals in a different print and I love them. With so many colors in the pattern, I can wear them with most everything. More importantly, they are comfortable! Another bonus, if they happen to get wet, they dry pretty quickly, and I have yet to have a problem wearing them while they’re wet.

10. Favorite swimsuit?

I love this type of swimsuit. I couldn’t find my exact swimsuit but this is very similar.
