Miserable in PARADISE- week #2

Shall we continue with week 2….?

{Day 8}
       19 more days…til I’ll be home
       * study time before breakfast
       * breakfast: sopapilla-like pastries, eggs with tomatoes & peppers (didn’t taste
         good), banana (didn’t eat-too ripe), and orange juice
       * G’s test after breakfast (wasn’t that bad); C’s after that (took a lot longer)
       * “It was so hot in the classroom”
       * lunch (delicious!): pastry-looking thing with meat, vegetables, & spices in it,
          lemonade
       * “I have all afternoon free and I don’t know what I’m going to do”
       * A and I planned to work on projects at South Beach but decided not to..double work
         tomorrow! Some of the girls went to South Beach to hang out “but I’m too lazy to get
         my swimsuit on and go down there”.
       * I finally went to South Beach but the clouds came out and I started shaking from being
         cold. Got my shower, and then everyone (I think) decided to go back out (not
         going…the whole “swimsuit on and off and another shower” thing is just too much
         trouble)
       * short meeting after dinner (nothing interesting). After that, everyone else partied with
         rum & Cokes, Diet Cokes, and Sprite. I had just plain Sprite.
       * I ended up going to bed before everyone left because I was so tired.

{Day 9}
       18 more days.
       * breakfast (“pretty nasty”): boiled eggs (which, for some reason, turns my stomach),
         flat biscuits, sausage gravy, pineapple slices, and orange juice
       * Diving-certified people went diving so no class until the afternoon. A and I went to
         South Beach to work on our project but there was Pica Pica. She went with G to work
         on her graduate thesis.
         I miss home so bad. I wish it was almost over. “I know 18 days isn’t long but it feels
         too long to me.”
       * discovered that a little bit of baby shampoo works really well for doing laundry
       * A and I now have to have the paper and poster finished by Tuesday (4 days). “I’m
         glad we don’t have to do our project snorkeling anymore. It was fun but it wears me
         out.”
        * dinner: spaghetti, chocolate cake, and papaya juice
        I TALKED TO MY MOM!=)
       * “I’m tired…GOODNIGHT!”

{Day 10}
       17 more days. I am more than ready to go home. I am tired! I am tired of the heat, the
       damp sheets, the bugs, the itching caused by the bugs. I just keep thinking…only two
       more weeks.
                           I must have been having a meltdown when I wrote that…LOL
       * breakfast: eggs with ham (“which is the only way I can eat eggs without gagging”),
         bread with peanut butter, a banana, and orange juice.
       * G’s class after breakfast, followed by exploring the “rocky intertidal”, then C’s class.
       * lunch (awesome!): [what they called] nachos (round like the chips but much bigger
         with refried beans, shredded cabbage, and cheese on top, slaw-like stuff, chocolate
         cake, and lemonade.
       * Free time after lunch so A and I went to South Beach to gather some more data. The
         waves were so bad that we could hardly swim.
       * saw: 4-5 foot barracuda (swam about two feet in front of me) and a snake eel

       * For supper, some people went to Blue Marlin (they said it wasn’t worth the $35 they
         paid) but the rest of us ate: baked fish, baked potatoes, cake (they said it was
         zucchini), and papaya juice.
       * After supper, we had our meeting with G and C to discuss our projects/presentations.
         G could barely stay awake and C was overthinking and overanalyzing instead of just
         giving advice. “I thought I was literally going to die before we finally got to our project.”
       * “Well, I’m extremely tired so GOODNIGHT!”

{Day 11}
       16 days to go.
       * 5-minute rain shower last night-not enough to cool it down but the wind is still blowing.
       * breakfast: pancake-looking things with peanut butter, eggs, banana, and orange juice
       * After breakfast, G’s class, followed by C’s class
       * Third Cut (backreef) after both classes. It was cool=) I got a sea biscuit.

       * lunch: soup (it was good), slices of white cheddar cheese, “flat biscuits”, mango slices
         (didn’t taste good), cookies, and lemonade
       * After lunch, A and I went to South Beach for the last time to work on our project (due
         Tuesday…today is Sunday). After South Beach, A went to work on her thesis project.
         We will begin presentation preparation when she gets back. “I will study while she is
         gone.”
       * When A got back, we started on our presentation/project. While everyone was
          working, G came into the dining room to tell us that there was a shark by the pier. We
          all had to go see it. “I got some good (hopefully…I did) pictures of the
          shark and Louie the barracuda.”

       * supper: chicken with some spices, potato salad (didn’t like), rice & beans, cake,
          and papaya juice
       * After supper, nightly meeting, followed by project/presentation work. A is working on
         the drawing and I am working on the paper. “I am almost done…THANK GOD!”

A drawing coral

       * “I am so tired…GOODNIGHT!”

{Day 12}
       15 days ’til I go home=)
       * “The craziest thing happened this morning. K and I woke up to a dog sitting at the end
         of our beds whining. At first, we thought we were dreaming.”
       * breakfast: pancakes with syrup, ham, and orange juice
       * no snorkeling today so we can work on projects
       * lunch: burritos, pineapple slices, and lemonade
       * TMI alert: “Something I ate yesterday has messed my stomach up. I don’t know what
          it was but I’ve definitely got problems.” (yes, this was actually in my journal)
       * “I wish I was home right now because (1) it is Memorial Day and everyone is at home,
          and [TMI alert numero dos] (2) if I was at home, I could feel comfortable having to sit
          on the toilet forever.” yes, I really wrote that…LOL
       * Back to work on the final draft of our paper – A is finishing the poster/drawings.
       * My stomach is still uneasy, and now A is having stomach problems.
       * supper: barracuda (ate one bite; Stardust got the rest), mashed potatoes (extra
         portion to make up for fish), cake (didn’t eat), and papaya juice.
       * G is concerned about both of us being sick…”we have to get this presentation
         organized by 8:30 tomorrow morning.” A and I are both tired and not feeling good so
         GOODNIGHT!

{Day 13}
        In two weeks (14 days) and about 2 hours from now, I will be flying home=)
        I can’t wait!
       * didn’t eat breakfast because A and I was finishing our project/presentation.
        “Thank God those are finally done!”

me during our presentation

       * G and C’s tests tomorrow; inland the next day.
       * lunch: nacho/crispy tortilla thing (with veggies and chicken), watermelon slices, and
         lemonade. They kept asking if we wanted more of the nacho things and kept making
         them as long as we wanted them=)
       * long nap and study time after lunch
       * dinner: pork (good), seasoned boiled veggies, lemon pie (DELICIOUS!), and papaya
         juice
       * After dinner, meeting about tomorrow’s tests and the inland trip on Thursday
       * test at 11:30 tomorrow so study time after breakfast…GOODNIGHT!

{Day 14}
       I wish I could go home right now. I’m being eaten alive by mosquitoes. I’m
       constantly itching. There isn’t any wind so it’s hot! The absence of wind is the
       reason the flies and mosquitoes are swarming. I can hardly study for swatting flies
       and mosquitoes. I still have to deal with this for 13 more days. Negative: 13 more
       days of mosquitoes and flies. Positive: 13 days ’til I go home=)
                dramatic much?? haha
       * breakfast: tortillas with peanut butter, pineapple slices, refried beans (don’t know why),
         and orange juice. (There was eggs and link sausages but I didn’t eat them because
        they make me sick). “This heat is making me sick. I’m so freaking miserable! This heat
        is frying my brain. I can’t think; I can’t stay focused. I seem to be going in and out of
        consciousness.” geez…I must have been near death…or at least felt like it…(it was
        June 1st)
       * G’s test is over – not too bad. “It is still really hot. I heard that they are going to have
         ice for us tonight. ICE!” “I’m hot!”
       * lunch: pizza. ” I wouldn’t be surprised if it makes me sick. The electricity is off for now
         so my fan isn’t working. I’m hot! I don’t know why they have the electricity off! They
         must want us to die! *SIGH* must we be so dramatic?!
        (must have been a very rough day LOL)
       * C’s test over – pretty easy (because he accidentally left out 1/3 of the test).
       * SSB 2005 has begun! (SSB = Summer Spring Break; what the inland trip was called)
       * supper (good): fried (or maybe baked) chicken, mashed potatoes, coconut (?) cake,
         and papaya juice. People had started drinking before supper but weren’t drunk…yet.
       * “Everyone else is at the boys’ place partying and listening to music-basically acting
          stupid and being loud”
       * “I’m tired so I think I’m about to go to bed. GOODNIGHT!”

…Ready for week 3 inland??
