{Friday Five} : Netflix/Amazon Prime edition

Thank the Lord it is Friday!

That means that it is time for Friday Five (or Five Things Friday or Five Things on a Friday…or some variation of Five & Friday)

I’m going to try to do them every Friday but my only goal is to have at least one a month.

[The Pinkertons]: (Netflix)
The Pinkertons is a Canadian show about the Pinkerton detective agency which dates
back to the 1860’s. The television version actually has stories based on real cases
from the agency. In the television version, Allan Pinkerton (the man that started the
Pinkerton Detective Agency) hires the first female detective, Kate Warne. (In my
research, I did not see mention of a female detective but it could very well have been
true.) Sadly, there is only one season but on the plus side, there are 22 episodes in
         that season.

[The Durrells in Corfu]: (Amazon Prime)
(airs on PBS but discovered on Amazon Prime)
The Durrells in Corfu is about a recently widowed woman who moves from England to
sunny Corfu, Greece. She and her 4 children, a daughter and three sons, ages 11 to
21, are miserable in England and decide on a change of scenery. As is evident in the
show, her children are quite unruly in Corfu just as they were in England but at least it
is a change of location and a new group of people. Thankfully, this show is still on and
I am currently waiting for season 3 to show up on Netflix.

[The Kominsky Method]: (Netflix)
The Kominsky Method is a show about a former actor turned acting coach (played
by Michael Douglas) and his best friend and agent (played by Alan Arkin). It shows
life’s ups and downs (new relationships, death of a spouse, strained relationships
due to drugs, health scares, etc.) for these two friends. While these issues make this
seem like a sad show, it is not all sad. It definitely has some hilarious moments (just
like life!). There are also so many famous faces that have guest (and some
recurring) roles throughout the first season. Warning (especially if kids will be
watching: There are times when the characters get on a roll with dropping the
f-bomb. Thankfully, I can tune it out and it isn’t throughout each and every episode.
Season 1 is currently on Netflix and I have seen where the show has been renewed
            for a second season.

[The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel]: (Amazon Prime)
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is about “Midge” Maisel who, after being raised by a
strict Jewish family, marries a Jewish man, from a “crazy” Jewish family, who wants
to be a comedian and the couple have two not-so-perfect children. The marriage
falls apart and Midge, after a night of drowning her sorrows, walks stumbles into a
club and ends up on stage doing comedy. She then realizes that she has a knack
for comedy and ends up with a manager. This show highlights the struggles of
family and comedy and everything in between. In other words, hilarity ensues!
Seasons 1 and 2 are on Prime now. This is my favorite “new” show!

[The Good Cop]: (Netflix)
The Good Cop stars Josh Groban (I know! Who knew?!) and Tony Danza. Tony
Danza plays “Big Tony”, a former NYPD cop who was a less-than-honorable officer
and Josh Groban plays his son TJ, a strict rule-following NYPD detective. The two
make an odd couple but become “partners” in solving various crimes. “Big Tony”
gives street-wise advice to TJ, who can only be described as overly cautious. As you             can imagine, this makes for many “heated”, yet entertaining exchanges. Sadly, there
           is only one season.
