[September] 2026: Book Review

It’s time to look at the books I read in September!

Snowed Inn – Valerie Bowman
★★★★.5

(out September 29)

Maria is a publicist and city girl who wanted nothing more than to go home to her family for the holidays. But a snowstorm cancels flights. She decides to stay at her best friend Ellie’s Honeycrisp Orchard Inn for a few days until the storm passes. However, the days end up being more than she had planned.

Not only is she stuck at the inn when she would rather be home with family, but she is also stuck there with Jesse, her annoying yet ruggedly handsome nemesis. Since the inn’s guests are also stuck there, Ellie, Jesse, Maria, and the remaining employees do everything they can to keep the Christmas spirit going.

When Ellie becomes sick with the flu, Maria quickly jumps in to help everywhere she can, even though it puts her in closer proximity to Jesse than she would like. They decide to call a truce for the sake of keeping the inn going. But, before too long, she is drawn in by the beauty, coziness, and Christmas spirit at the inn.

…and, soon their truce turns into a friendship and then a romance. Will it be just a holiday fling, or something deeper?

If you love a cozy, Christmasy story with some romance thrown in, you will like this book.

The Paris Files – Eva Jurczyk
★★★★★

(out October 6)

Canadian Genie St. Onge meets American Jacob Ford while in the Phillippines, and they fall in love. It is an intensely romantic relationship, and they plan to meet up in Paris. During their rendezvous in Paris, Jacob suddenly disappears. Genie is convinced that someone has taken him, because she knows that he would never leave her. She tries to convince everyone around, including the police, that something has happened to him. The police soon turn their investigation toward her. Her story doesn’t seem to align with everyone else’s, so is she guilty? It is also discovered that Jacob is not who she thought he was too. So, what has happened to Jacob, and why?

This story is written in a way that goes back and forth between the neighbor’s, Genie’s friend’s, store merchants’ and Genie’s interviews during the duration of the investigation. It is easy to keep up with each interview, each person, and their version of the events.
