out July 2, 2026
This is set during the 1950s and the Korean conflict. The Americans have just entered the conflict. Oksoon and her family believe the war is about to end, until China enters. They soon decide that they must leave their home in Pyongyang, along with many other families.. They face many struggles as they flee, such as freezing temperatures and lack of food.
Further south, Oksoon’s cousin Junho has found refuge in an orphanage for abandoned children. The orphanage is struggling to stay open, but with Junho’s knowledge of English, he is tasked with writing letters to American missionaries and benefactors, asking for financial help.
This book is about resilience and survival during times of conflict, but also about love and connection to family.
