Happy Wednesday, friends! Let’s do this!! It’s time for Joyce‘s Wednesday Hodgepodge linkup! Here are this week’s questions with my answers in italics.

1. What does it mean to have the ‘holiday spirit’? On a scale of 1-10 how is yours this year? (10=off the charts, 1=still looking for it)
Having holiday spirit means enjoying the joy and merriment of the season. For me, I think it is a 10 = off the charts!
2. What’s your favorite character from a (December) holiday-themed movie, book, or TV special? Tell us why.
The first one I think of is the Grinch. He may have been a grinch at the beginning (and no one can blame him after his childhood teasings), but by the end, he was able to see the good and the joy, even after all of the Whoville decorations and food were stolen.

3. Do you like gingerbread? Are gingerbread houses part of your holiday tradition?
I don’t dislike it, but it isn’t something that “I just have to have”. Gingerbread houses are not a part of our holiday tradition as a family, but we now have a tradition of “Cookies and Cocoa” for the families of our church kids. We wear pajamas, have cookies and cocoa, and build gingerbread houses.
4. Much of our vocabulary is determined by where we live or where we grew up. What say you-
sprinkles or jimmies? I have not heard of jimmies until now.
lightning bugs or fireflies?
soda or pop? Really, it is neither. It’s Coke, whether it is Coke, Sprite, or Dr. Pepper. But I will say, I have been trying to do better, so I always try to say soda instead of Coke now.
sneakers, trainers, or tennis shoes? I have always said “tennis shoes”, but now I do say sneakers more, like “fashion sneakers”. My running shoes are still “tennis shoes”. However, when I remember British shows, I have been known to call them “trainers” but that is not nearly as often as sneakers and tennis shoes.
sub, hoagie, grinder, or hero? I think I actually just call it a “sandwich” but have used the phrase “sub sandwich” before. I think I have only said “hoagie” when ordering somewhere, and that is what it was called on the menu.
freeway, highway, or motorway?
frosting or icing? I’m sure I have said “icing” before, but most of the time, I say “frosting”.
sauce or gravy? I say both. It depends on what it is – spaghetti “sauce” or biscuits and “gravy”.
5. Share a favorite holiday memory from your childhood.
The first time my mom and I went to our local symphony’s Christmas show. The company she worked for at the time had a bunch of tickets, and we got to go. To this day, we still go (almost) every year. Even though I am usually in the Christmas spirit way before this, to me, this Christmas performance feels like the “official” start of the Christmas season.
6. Insert your own random thought here.
I have acquired a Grinch meal at McDonald’s. I am probably more excited about this than a kid with a Happy Meal. I don’t know that I was ever this excited about a Happy Meal as a kid LOL

Comments
What’s in a Grinch meal? I haven’t been to McDonalds in such a long time. It sounds fun though! I like the Grinch too. My husband and I used to go to a musical performance every year at the holidays but we can’t make it this year as we have another event happening that same weekend. I’ll miss it though, and agree those performances do amp up the Christmas spirit! Have a nice weekend!
The Grinch meal is either a Big Mac or 10-piece McNugget, medium fries, a medium drink, a special “Grinch salt” for the fries, and a pair of socks (either green, blue, red, or yellow…you don’t know until you open it). The Grinch salt is dill pickle flavor. Some people do not like it but I loved it. It made me think of dill pickle chips. It all comes in a big green Grinch Happy Meal-type box.
That’s cool, having cookies and cocoa with the kidds from your Church families, sounds lie a nice tradition.
